Five Roads Worth the Distance
A considered route through the Highlands, from the quiet sweep of Glencoe to the edge of the Bealach na Bà.

The Highlands reward an unhurried approach. Long sightlines, sudden weather and roads that follow the landscape make the drive feel larger than the distance.
Glencoe to Fort William
Leave early, before the traffic gathers. The A82 moves between steep, dark ridges and opens gradually toward Loch Linnhe. It is dramatic without demanding speed.
The Bealach na Bà
This single-track pass to Applecross is narrow, exposed and unforgettable. Check the forecast, allow space for oncoming vehicles and treat every blind bend with respect.
Lochinver to Durness
The north-west coast is quieter. Expect changing surfaces, open moorland and sea views that arrive without warning. Fuel stops are limited, so plan ahead.
Cairngorms after rain
The Old Military Road through the Cairngorms feels at its best under a clearing sky. Wet tarmac sharpens the colour of the landscape and asks for a calm, measured drive.
The return through Rannoch Moor
Finish south across Rannoch Moor near dusk. The road stretches into a wide, sparse horizon—a restrained final chapter to the route.
